Project Update #42: Delivery Update
Posted by Neptune ♥ Like
Dear Supporters,
We’d like to first apologize for the lack of recent communication from our end. We've been overwhelmed lately, trying as hard as we can to ship the best Pine possible on time.
We’re excited to inform you that the issues we had around FCC testing for the Pine have been resolved. Because the Pine is so different from existing devices on the market, the FCC did not have previous experience with a product like ours and as a result, took more time than usual to set the testing definitions for our product. Now that this issue has been resolved, we can now move forward on our production. Happy to say that’s out of the way!
However, the FCC’s new testing definitions for our product make it so that our timetable for manufacturing has to be modified, mainly due to new antenna calibration guidelines set forth by the FCC for our main GSM antenna. We have therefore made the tough, but necessary, decision to push our shipping date back until April 30th.
Here are some crucial milestones and dates for our manufacturing schedule:
PCB Testing Definition - March 27 to 30
Antenna Calibration (as per FCC's guidelines) - March 28 to April 19
Final Tooling Confirmation - March 31
User Manual & Warranty Printed - April 4
End of reliability tests - April 11
Outer Casings Ready - April 17
SMT Production - April 20 to 22
Assembly - April 23 to 29
Shipping - April 30
We are deeply sorry for this and previous shipping delays. We know we’ve kept you waiting and have tested your patience. For these reasons, any Kickstarter backers or pre-orderers wishing to receive a full refund can do so by clicking here*. Please know that we are fully committed to ensuring you - our generous Kickstarter backers - to receive the first Pines.
As a token of apology we’ve decided to offer:
A complimentary free Bumper for all our Kickstarter backers and our pre-orderers.
A $100 Gift Certificate off of our future second-generation product.
We understand that this does not, in any way, make up for the shipping delays but we believe that apologies should be more than simply words.
We also know that we’ve been poor communicators in terms of updates. This is due largely to the fact that we’re a new company and have had a steep learning curve on some issues. Nonetheless, being a startup is not an excuse for a lack of communication.
To this end, we’re committed to providing you with updates on the status of manufacturing and shipping on at least a weekly basis.
Again, please accept our most sincere apologies for the manufacturing delay and our intermittent communications. We are so grateful that you put your faith in us and we are committed to getting you the highest quality product we can.
As always, thank you for your continued support,
- The Neptune Team
*Backers wishing to re-purchase the Pine after cancellation will not be able to obtain the same prices as the pledges offered on our Kickstarter campaign.
