I put a hand-written note underneath, lest there be any naysayers.

So does this portent anything for the rest of us? I have no information on that. They just offered me the chance to test out one of the prototypes and, well, how could I say no. LOL

Very cool! You're definitely the guy that deserves the first Pine ...could you maybe please try if it works as a normal phone? Holding it to your ear and having a private conversation with someone. The quickstart guide they posted a while back said you weren't allowed to do so, so be careful not to damage your hearing while testing please. I'm just too curious if that works and since I have now bought myself an Iconbit Callisto (Truesmart clone) to tide me over til my Pine arrives I'm on the market for a headset. I only have stereo blutooth headsets for music since I never needed a communication headset because I seldom actually phone with my phone but it happens once in a while and speakerphone doesn't seem like a usable option for me. If the Pine can do as all phones can and I won't need a headset for it I will probably buy a cheap one for the 'Truesmart'. If on the other hand the Pine is not really viable as a normal phone and would also benefit greatly by a headset I might get something smaller and higher quality and try to get used to carrying it around. By the way: Suggestions anyone? I'll make a new thread for that, don't want to get too much off topic... Idefix

Yes, I have made a call in that way and it is how we predicted... you have to keep the volume at a level where others cannot hear it. I'm not saying that it doesn't work, but for me, I prefer to use a bluetooth earpiece. Of course, I have done that for a long time, so it is not a big deal for me. Also, I have the jayBird headphones (BT) that can double as a headset for calls, so that works when I am using them for music or watching something, as well.

Congratulations getting one even if a preproduction model. Did I read correctly that it is difficult to make ordinary calls? How easy is it to surf non mobile sites and post comments? How well does the Gmail app work? Do you forsee custom ROMs to get a usable level of functionality? I am trying to decide if it is worth getting one thus I registered here.

I have sideloaded the Play Store and have partial functionality. Working to figure out the issue.
